This $240 million investment is the largest campus modernization project Carle has ever embarked upon.

Within the 348,400 square feet of new physical space and approximately 50,000 square feet of renovated space, the state-of-the-art facility features 100 percent private patient rooms, the latest in equipment and technology, and greater convenience and access. The new structure designed with private patient rooms for increased patient privacy and family participation in the treatment and healing process, to protect patients from infections that can be transmitted by other patients, and to better accommodate the increasing size of hospital beds and medical equipment used at the bedside.

The new bed tower includes 135 replacement beds; one additional catheterization lab – bringing the total to eight catheterization labs strategically designed adjacent to the operating rooms; a 20-bed Surgical ICU and a 12-bed Cardiovascular ICU.

GHR provided complete MEP design and construction administration of an $80,000,000 hospital addition that included extensive piping design (domestic hot water, hot water return, cold water and various medical gases) and the design of several duplex sewage ejector pumps, duplex storm pump and elevator and sump pump systems.

GHR provided complete MEP-FP design and construction administration for this new state-of-the-art, hybrid operating room. The design included the use of an AirFrame® Modular OR Ceiling System; several Stryker booms; a room condition monitoring system (monitors temperature, humidity, pressure differential and air flow); and isolation power panels with remote monitoring.

Carle Hospital Concourse Expansion

This project includes first-floor concourse and Breezeway expansion to provide additional and more-convenient patient and visitor amenities such as a new 24/7 café, a new gift shop, a new Chapel, and a new Carle Medical Supply.

Radiology 7T MRI

GHR performed mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and coordination modeling and full construction administrative services for this state-of-the-art 7-Tesela MRI installation project at Carle Foundation Hospital. Coordination was especially challenging as this very large piece of equipment was to be located in an existing basement space with very limited head space. Through careful and thorough coordination modeling efforts between GHR, the construction manager and the sub-contractors, this effort went smoothly.
