Papa Del's Pizza Factory
Champaign, Illinois
means we are participants in all major meetings, as well as smaller, more "focused" meetings addressing our area of specialization. Drawings are coordinated within the design team. Specifications are coordinated by the Project Manager. Estimates are reviewed and coordinated by the Project Manager.




Jupiter's at the Crossing
Champaign, Illinois

Jupiter's at the Crossing is a 36,000-square-foot family entertainment center. Features include dining and billiards on the first floor; a four-player bowling alley and bar in the basement; and a 9,000-square-foot area on the second floor for conferences, receptions and special events. GHR provided MEP-FP design services for this 2002 project as well as construction administration.

Cunningham's Children's Home
Education and Recreation Center
Urbana, Illinois
The new Education and Recreation Center (ERC) is planned as part of the Phase II expansion of the Cunningham Children’s Home campus. The ERC facility will combine both the residential school program (Gerber School) and day school program (Circle Academy) in a single facility and will also include new dining and recreation facilities to support the entire campus. GHR provided the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design components.




TAVR OR Remodel
Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois
The Carle TAVR OR primary procedure is trans-catheter aortic valve implantation-heart valve replacement through catheters with imaging. This procedure is performed in the OR in the event that complications arise. When the room is not in use for the trans-catheter aortic valve implantation procedure, it is utilized for Open Heart Surgery, Vascular Surgery (omitting Carotid Endarterectomy), Interventional Cardiology and Interventional Vascular procedures.
The renovation consisted of conversion of an area of prep spaces into a new operating / imaging room. The TAVR OR renovation took place in order to integrate surgery and radiology departmental work. Approximate total renovation square footage is 2,200 sf.
GHR portion of the project was to design new air handler, electrical, med gas, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection for the space.




Carle Forum
Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois
New freestanding medical education building of 44,000 square feet on three levels. State of the art teaching, training and conference facility features acoustically designed hi‑tech lecture hall, interactive video conferencing and data network. Special consideration for chemical extinguishing system in network hub rooms. Hot water boiler system with VAV reheats with special attention to sound transmission in ducts add air units serving auditorium.
Emergency system was extended from the existing Hospital emergency distribution.
Total new addressable fire alarm system video security and surveillance, CCTV distribution and sound paging system.
250 seat auditorium is completely networked, has video conferencing capabilities, sound reinforcement, and complete video and audio presentation system.




Rehabilitation Carle Hospital
Urbana, Illinois

This $10M project consisted of remodeling over 45,000 square feet of hospital space which included 15 new patient rooms (private & semi-private), new office spaces, a waiting room, equipment rooms, medication rooms, two new nurse stations, dining area and an extensive wound healing and rehabilitation space. GHR provided complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and med gas design in addition to on site construction administration for this effort. The project included two new 16,000 CFM air handlers fed from the campus steam/chilled water loops (sized for future use on other floors).


Carle Lobby Remodel

GHR provided all MEP-FP designs for Carle Foundation Hospital’s main lobby renovation that is now underway. This project gives the main entrance a much needed face lift and renovates Carle’s registration suite. The project includes all new digital HVAC controls, revised fire protection coverage and a complete architectural LED lighting design that is over five times as efficient as the previous lighting systems while using less power.




Alice Campbell Alumni Center
University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois
Conveniently located on the campus, the Alumni Center is a 54,000 s.f. building which includes a reception gallery, library, lounge and great room, student areas, and banquet facilities for up to 224 guests. The Center's offices, conference rooms, and executive board room accommodate the Alumni Association including alumni relations, accounting, business information, communications and publications, and membership services. GHR provided complete MEP-FP services for this project.




Clark Lindsey Villas
Urbana, Illinois
These beautiful homes are located along the northeastern part of Clark-Lindsey’s campus along the edge of Meadowbrook Park. The development, appropriately named Meadows Edge at Clark-Lindsey, offers three different floor plans. This Villa-style type of home is perfect for the busy retiree who wants to trade up from the maintenance and ownership of a traditional house. GHR worked alongside developers, architects and builders to offer custom designs for practically each of twelve villas. Each villa included minimal emergency power, geothermal HVAC, and a fire protection system.




Savoy Public Works Building
Savoy, Illinois
The new one-story, 12,400 square foot facility provides space for three public works divisions including fleet maintenance, parks and grounds and streets and sewers. This project includes heated vehicle storage; a manual wash bay; staff support spaces. The design also incorporated drive-thru bays and a radiant floor heating system with epoxy finish to enhance building functionality. GHR designed the ventilation system; in-floor radiant heating system; all plumbing and plumbing fixtures; power distribution, general lighting and emergency power system.


Urbana Park District Planning & Operations Center
Urbana, Illinois
GHR performed all MEP-FP design and construction administration on this 60,000 square feet facility. The overall intent of this project was to bring together four city departments: Planning & Operations, Aquatics, Maintenance and Grounds. The new facility included various office & meeting spaces, shower facilities, large vehicle maintenance bays, wash bays, construction shops and tool storage rooms. GHR’s project design included plumbing for all plumbing fixtures, wash bays and distributed compressed air; geothermal HVAC system; architectural lighting for finished spaces, high output fluorescent work lighting for work areas, and all supported power for equipment and convenience.




Intermodal Transportation Building
Champaign, Illinois
This 50,000 square foot facility was designed to provide a consolidated terminal for inter-city bus service, rail passenger service, and major transfer point for local mass transit service. Initially conceived as a transfer point for its downtown Champaign, Illinois passengers, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District expanded the program to meet the ground transportation requirements of several modes and users in an efficient, economic and sustainable manner. The building was also developed as a mixed-use facility to encourage pedestrian and economic activity in an area slated for renewal. Along with various office, retail, and other tenants within the facility, a meeting and banquet venue occupies the top floor and overlooks both cities. GHR designed the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems for this space. Years later, GHR also designed a complete LED lighting retrofit for the building.
Champaign County Court House
Urbana, Illinois

GHR performed MEP-FP engineering & construction administration in the expansion and renovation of the Champaign County Courthouse located in Urbana, Illinois. The design preserves the turn-of-the century courthouse as the prominent landmark within downtown Urbana. The project relocated the prisoner holding/staging areas, courtrooms and judicial support facilities to the 90,000 square foot addition while court support offices were located in existing but renovated 39,000 square foot courthouse.








Champaign County Fleet Maintenance Facility
Champaign, Illinois
The 40,000 square foot facility houses the Engineering Department’s offices and public meeting room; the Highway Department’s crew areas - including locker rooms and a break room; the Highway Department’s enclosed vehicle storage; and a vehicle maintenance area to serve the County’s fleet. As part of the design considerations, the County had a desire to encompass green concepts by integrating energy efficiency, durability, and light into the design of the facility. GHR helped achieve this desire by designing a geothermal heating and cooling system; heated floor system in the vehicle storage and maintenance bays; and taking natural light through many large windows into consideration.
MTD Bus Storage Addition
Urbana, Illinois
GHR provided the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design components to convert and expand an existing bus storage building in Urbana, Illinois to meet the fleet storage and maintenance needs of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. This expansion doubled the bus storage capacity and provided offices and training facilities in an upstairs mezzanine. As with all MTD projects, sustainability and efficiency were a huge concern. GHR’s designs included a complete LED lighting design with robust controls; low flow plumbing fixtures; and a variable refrigerant flow heating & cooling system.
